Baseball signed by Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig

This baseball signed by Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig was brought to an appraisal day event I facilitated to benefit The Sons and Daughters of the First Settlers (Newbury, MA). The autographs were collected by William Patrick Colpoys, Fenway Park visiting team batboy circa 1928-1932 (left in photo) and was brought in by his daughter.

Beyond New England

When former Historical Society of Old Newbury President Clifford Bonney passed away in 2018, the executrix of the estate invited me to perform an estate tax appraisal of his advanced collection of Pilgrim century furnishings in Petersburg, Virigina.

As a former colleague of Mr. Bonney at the Historical Society, I had a deep appreciation for his keen eye and lifetime curation of fine works.

I coordinated the safe transfer of the items to Amesbury, Massachusetts for sale in collaboration with John McInnis Auctioneers where the collection netted over $350,000 in proceeds benefitting the Historical Society of Old Newbury.

"Roseau"

Evaluated by others to be a print, I examined and confirmed this work by surrealist Rene Magritte was in fact an original drawing.

Sold at auction for over $86,000.

Screaming Chief Sitting Bull.jpg

"Screaming Chief Sitting Bull"

Oil on aircraft dope covered fabric 19 x 26 inches.

By family tradition, this was taken from one of the original WWI Lafayette Escadrille planes by William J. Whipfall. Detailed research confirmed Whipfall was indeed an aviator during WW1.

The insignia, however, was proven to come from the 103rd Aero Squadron in 1918-1919.

Sold at auctions for $11,000.
